    The 33rd CSUN Assistive Technology conference was held in San Diego from 21st-23rd March,2018. Manshul Belani presented the paper "DescribeIt:Making web images more accessible with NVDA". The paper describes an NVDA addon that allows users to fetch descriptions and color information for web images using Microsoft Computer Vision API.

    • National Conference on Inclusive Schooling

      A National Conference on Inclusive Schooling was held at the NDMC Convention Centre, New Delhi from 2nd November - 4th November 2017. The conference was organized by BROTHERHOOD, along with other organizations like NIEPMD, TISS, Vision Dicyang, etc. CoETG team members attended the conference and presented a paper on "Tactile Diagrams for Science and Mathematics: Design, Production and Experiences of Students with Blindness".

      • Assistech Team at Antarchakshu - The Eye Within at St. Xavier College, Mumbai

        Venue: Mumbai

        Assistech Team attended the two day awareness workshop - Antarchakshu organized by Xavier's Resource Centre for the Visually Impaired(XRCVC), St. Xavier's College. The team displayed various projects like Tactile Graphics, Bus Identification System, NVDA, etc and were much appreciated for the work.

        • Dr. Amy Kalia:Dr. Amy Kalia from Department of Brain and Cognitive Sciences, MIT

          Venue: MIT

          Dr. Amy Kalia is a fellow researcher at the Department of Brain and Cognitive Sciences, MIT and a Fullbright Scholar. Her research examines the perceptual and neural effects of visual impairment, particularly in the domains of spatial cognition and multisensory perception. The research goal is to inform the development of rehabilitation programs and assistive technologies for people with visual impairment so that they can more easily function in the world. Dr. Amy was here for a semester and also offered a 1-credit course on "Perception Guided Technology Design".

            • Alumni Research Talk series at BITS Pilani

              Venue: BITS Pilani

              Prof. M. Balakrishnan delivers a talk on "ASSISTECH: An Undergraduate Driven Research Initiative" at BITS Pilani under their Alumni Research Talk series.

              • Visitors from Iran

                Venue: Assistech Lab, IIT Delhi

                A team from Iran visited Assistech Lab on 23rd December to know more about the assistive technologies available for the visually impaired and the type of projects going on in the lab. The team consisted of Mr. Aliasghar Assadi, a visually impaired teacher in Mohebi School For The Blind, Mr. Akbar Adineh, one of the volunteer helpers for the blind in Dezfool, Khoozestan and the manager of Arya-Arsam Cultural institute for the blind in Dezfool, Khoozestan and Mrs. Forouzan Dadvar, English teacher and the other manager of Arya-Arsam Cultural Institute For The Blind in Dezfool, Khoozestan.

                • Events:UNBOX Design Festival at IGNCA, New Delhi

                  Venue: New Delhi

                  The workshop aims to make the design community sensitive of the gaps in our infrastructure and resources that pose problems for the visually impaired community and how user centric design approach can make their lives better. Scenario sensitization, problem identification and brainstorming sessions for problem solving were held. The participants were given a hands on experience of the products used by the people with visual impairment like, tactile graphics, talking calculator, braille slate, white cane etc. in order to make them sensitive toward the design intricacies involved in products specially designed for this community

                  • Dr. Bob Marek from Catholic University of Lublin, Poland

                    Venue: Poland

                    Dr. Bob Marek, an expert in the area of tactile learning aids for the visually imapired, conducted a day long workshop-cum-demonstration. Dr. Marek hails from Poland and is also involved in a project in Nepal as a special educator and teacher trainer. He has developed some unique tactile kits which would make learning and understanding of new objects very easy for a visually imapired student.

                    • Exhibition at International Conference: From Exclusion to Empowerment at IIT Delhi

                      Venue: IIT Delhi

                      Assistech Team of IIT Delhi exhibited six of their projects – namely SmartCane, Braille Tutor, Refreshable Braille Display, OnBoard, Tactile Graphics and Edutactile at the international conference hosted by UNESCO at Vigyan Bhavan. The main objective of the conference was to promote the human rights and fundamental freedoms of persons with disabilities through the use of ICTs and the audio-visual medium.

                      • Showcasing SmartCane at UNDP Social Good Summit, IIT Delhi

                        Venue: IIT Delhi

                        A host of cutting edge, innovative, low-cost technologies, including SmarteCane were showcased at this event which can make a fundamental change to people’s lives. the event was attended by several digniteries, such as United Nations Resident Coordinator and UNDP Resident Representative Lise Grand, noted filmmaker Shekhar Kapur and actor Sushant Singh Rajput among others.

                        • Antarchakshu - The Eye Within at XRCVC, Mumbai

                          Venue: Mumbai

                          Assistech team participated in the event hosted by XRCVC, Mumbai where they demostrated various projects, namely Refreshable Braille Display, Braille Tutor, Accessible Tactile Graphics and Edutactile. Antarchakshu 2014 mainly focused on how education can be made inclusive for blind and low-vision students.

                              • SmartCane - Release to the People at IITD

                                IIT Delhi together with Saksham Trust proudly annouced the launch of the SmartCane.With the release to the people, SmartCane is now available for purchase through various community partners.

                                • Maitreyi College students visit Assistech Lab at Assistive Technologies Group (Assistech), IITD

                                  Venue: IITD

                                  Around 30 students along with 5 faculties from Maiteryi College visited Assistech Lab to have a glimpse of the latest research and development going on in the lab. The group was quite enthusiastic and loaded with questions.

                                        Assistech team exhibited five of its assistive devices for visually impaired at the Inclusive Inovation Exhibition at Pune.

                                        • CSP315: Exhibition of Innovation & Design, IIT Delhi at Assistech Group, Computer Science Deptt, IITD

                                          Venue: IITD

                                          Assistech team organised an exhibition on CSP315 projects as well as other embedded devices. The main focus of the event was on assistive devices for visually impaired.

                                          • Reading Without Seeing Seminar at Saksham Trust,Central Library of JNU, New Delhi

                                            Venue: New Delhi

                                            Saksham organized a full day workshop on accessible technology, "Reading Without Seeing" at Central Library of Jawahar Lal Nehru University Delhi.The “Reading Without Seeing” seminar is an awareness and basic training of accessible technologies for people with visual impairment being run as part of a nationwide program under the DAISY Forum of India (DFI). The seminar was a demonstration of different mobile accessible technologies along with various reading and daily living equipments, DAISY book players and magnifiers, Braille writing devices & low vision aids.

                                              Venue: Pilani

                                              CSIR CEERI, Pilani organised an International Conference on Advance Electronics Systems where Prof. M. Balakrishnan were invited to deliver talk on the topics: Assistive Technology for the Visually Impaired and Multi-core Processor Power Estimation.

                                                At the symposium, Ms Supriya Das presented Smart Cane for the Visually Impaired and Mr Yogesh Taneja presented GPS Navigation with the help of Screen Readers.

                                                  Venue: New Delhi.

                                                  What is Techshare India : Techshare India is a National Conference with International participation. It brings conversations to the forefront from web accessibility to digital talking books, from patient moving hoists to accessible ATMs, from screen readers to sign language interpreter relay services, from AAC devices to reading writing tools. Mr Dipendra Manocha and Ms Supriya Das presented and demonstrated the Smart Cane at Techshare India
